Good site.
Please correct caption on photo: 39124 Torrens - appears to be ID'd as on the left of photo. This is my Great Uncle Allston Neely.
I visited my Great Aunt Aggie Neely, his sister. She showed me photos of him, military, civilian, including one on the site. He is on the left.
Medical records NZ army state: 5' 8", "Florid" complexion, "Ruddy" hair colour - not soldier on right who must be Torrens.
Same mistake occurred in publication "Forgotten Heroes of Kilrea 1914 - 1918" same photograph used. Perhaps this is where confusion first arose.
Please correct caption. Thanks.

I lived at 74 Avoneil Road in the 1950's and I am currently researching the various addresses we lived at in Belfast.

I am particularly looking for photos around that time if they exist.
I haven't gone into your site in any depth yet.
But it's a good start!

Hi Mary,
First thank you for your continuing efforts on behalf of us all and secondly I understand you lost your son so please accept my sincere condolences.
I am continuing my research into the Dunseith/Spence/McGowan/Lemon and of course Boyd families. Today I learned of the death of Mary Lemon (nee Barron) in October 1913 in the Belfast Asylum but am unable to find such a place. I was curious because she was well past childbearing age so not likely to be in the Magdalene. Anyway, I will keep searching. Best wishes
Vic

Wonderful site. Just happened upon it; was able to look up my grandfather Thomas Windrim of Cairo Street, great Aunt Lizzie Moderate of Hatfield Street and grandfather and mother from Donegall Road. Left Ireland in the 1960's and it is great to read the names of neighbors from 1943 to my mother who is approaching 90 years old. She remembers them all and who she played with and who got married, etc. Wonderful walk down memory lane. Thank you thumbup

Hello there, I just wanted to write to say thank you for putting up the 1913 Telephone Directory. I have found it very useful in research for two projects I have done in the past year, www.graniteandchalk.com and www.1916live.com. I visited to check a detail today and saw you had posted that your son passed away. I was affected by his photo, he looks so full of life, how awful to lose him so young. My deepest condolences, Naomi.

Thanks to your website, I found the names of my grandmother's family members who served in the First World War. Her maiden name was Anna Wilmot. She had emigrated to the United States, but returned to her home in Cairnview Cottages, Ballysally, for the birth of my father, Joseph McKelvie in 1914. She returned again for a visit in 1950. My father visited in 1944, while on leave from the US Army fighting in France.

Thank you for your excellent work! I am looking for information on William Edward Bryson (1824-1903), a civil engineer born in Antrim to Patrick Martha Trumble; Patrick was a captain in the Royal Navy. William worked on the Midland & Gt Western Railway, the Hudson River Railway in North America and was one of the earliest bridge engineers for the Victorian Railways in Australia. He married my gg grandmother in 1855 and has no marker on his grave. If I can find more proof of his birth date I can then place a suitable plaque.

Much relief to see you are still maintaining this extremely valuable site. Amazing result from a query a few yrs ago so trying again - A maternal branch of my HOPKINS-MOODY ancestors of NI married into the ARNOLD family of Warwickshire and (just discovered) my grd father, Oscar Baron Arnold's 1st cousin HAROLD JAMES ARNOLD immigrated to NEW ZEALAND appx 1920s and along with his son FREDRICK WILLIAM ARNOLD owned a general store. I am trying to locate the person who constructed this family tree as both my mother and grandmother are named in it.....and possibly fill in some gaps! wink smile

I wwas able to trace his movements from Sword Beach, Lion sur Mer through to Cambre, all in a half hours drive. Fascinating. So sad he went through all of that at age 19 and was killed in Holland.

Hello~ My Great Grandfather, Joseph Dinsmore, was born in Ballinaloob - and he married my Great Grandmother, Rose Gorman, (from Glenbuck) in 1870 in Ballymoney - and emigrated to Brooklyn, NY later that year. This was my Great Grandfather's second marriage as he married Jane Laverty in Ballymoney in 1867 - but she died (age 26) in 1869. My Great Great Grandfather was Hugh Dinsmore who was a farmer in Ballinaloob and he died in 1895. I found your site absolutely fascinating as we have so little information. Thank you for all that you do for those of us searching for our roots. Blessings
