March 20, 1862

Chemico-Agricultural Society of Ulster, Belfast May 3, 1872.

Dear Sirs - My analysis of the Cromac Water sent me from your Springs shows it to be a Water of superior purity, and remarkably free both from the mineral and Organic impurities which many waters in this country contain. It would be premature to indicate at present the way in which will be provided the increased accommodation, rendered necessary by the great development during thirteen years of the business of the Castle Restaurant, but it is the Proprietor's intention to open, in addition to the principal Dining Room up stairs, a large Saloon & Coffee Room on the Ground Floor, to provide ample accommodation for the comfort and convenience of Ladies, and rooms where seclusion and home comfort will be at the disposal of Private or Family parties. No pains or expense will be spared to maintain and extend the high character of

The Financial Position of the Society is Unrivalled, though not the oldest of the existing Life Assurance Institutions of Great Britain, it has long possessed the largest Life Assurance Fund, now amounting to : SEVEN MILLION STERLING It's Investments are all of the highest class, not one of them involving liability, or subject to fluctuation in value. The results already realised by Members, past and present are shown in the following examples of

The amounts payable under the above "Policies in Force" will increase with each additional year of their subsistence.
The Next Division of Profits Takes Place in 1880
Assurance effected before 31st December 1880, will rank for One Year's Bonus.
The total profit of the business to 31st December 1873, the date of the last valuation and division of surplus - among members only - exceeded FIVE MILLION AND A HALF STERLING. Of that amount over One Million and a quarter, or nearly one fourth of the whole profit, accrued in the seven years immediately preceding 31st December 1873, and on division gave the Members additions to their benefits ranging from £1.13s per cent. per annum on the Original Sum in the New Policies, to £4 per cent, per annum on the Original Sum in the Oldest.
Looking to the great increase that is taking place in the Society's carefully selected HOME Business, to the ample Reserves secured by its system of Valuation, and to the safe and productive Investment of its Funds, there appears good reason to expect at future divisions results at least as satisfactory.

Provident Life Office, 50 Regent Street, London. Founded 1806
President - The Right Hon. Earl Grey
Managing Director - S. A. Beaumont, Esq., Secretary - Charles Stevens, Esq.
The Provident Life Office is the oldest purely Life Company doing business in Ireland, and was the first Office which effected Insurance upon the Bonus principle, returning at stated periods the net surplus of the annual premiums. The importance of this improvement is acknowledged by extraordinary public approbation and by the numerous initiations of it, which new Offices have lately offered, and which older ones have adopted, in changing their constitutions. The Principle upon which the surplus profits are divided in the Provident Life Offices between the Insured and the Shareholders, gives to each interest a share proportionate to its respective contributions to the Society. The parties insured thus enjoy the advantages of a mutual Society, and are relieved from any Liability, or the apprehension which always accompanies Life Offices doing business without subscribed capital. The advantages which this principle of allotment gives to the Policyholders is shown by the following statement :- The Provident Life Office has been established Seventy-Three years, during which time it has paid to the Assured claims to the amount of £6,055,100: the Invested Fund, belonging to the Policyholders, amounts now to £ 2,019,251.

for Mutual Assurance, 2 King William Street, London E. C.
Established 1830
President - The Hon. G. Talbot.  Vice-President - H. Pollock, Esq.  Secretary - H. J. Puckle, Esq.
The Quinquennial Valuation made at the end of 1875, enabled the Directors to declare a Reduction of Sixty per Cent, upon the original Premiums on all Policies in Class A for the five years ending with 1880. (This class was closed on 31st December 1870)
In Class b, Policies have a reduction of Premium for the whole term of Life, which in the case of those affected in 1871, varied from 3 1/2 to 24 per Cent, according to the age of the Life Assured, at the last Valuation.
All the Profits belong to the Assured, and (as regards Class B), are applied to the gradual reduction and ultimate extinction of their Premiums, a result which may be expected to occur, on an average, in about twenty years from the date of the Policy.
Funds for the Education of Children and for their Establishment in Life may be provided on unusually favourable terms, on a new system lately introduced by this Society, based upon Tables of mortality specially constructed for the purpose.
The next Division of Profits will be made at the end of 1880.
