I am trying to track down Ancestors from Belfast. My Grandmother (Jane HICKEY) was born there. Her parents were Margaret BRANNEY and Samuel HICKEY. Samuel was baptised at St. Malachy's Belfast. Margarets parents were George BRANNEY/BRANEY and Sarah STARKEY.
Jane came out to Australia, so have no real knowledge of the family back in Ireland. Lived in KILLOUGH. I will be visiting Belfast in October.

This is a very interesting site. I am back to looking for info on Belfast relatives. Grandmother, Rebecca Barr, and brother John Barr came thru Ellis Island in 1900. I have for a great source in Ireland, some time back, that she was from #4Cavour Street. Would love to hear if place still stands, any Barr's still around and whatever else I can learn. Thanks to all, especially the Webmaster of this site.

I just stumbled on your site while looking for information on Ballindullagh Ballinamallard where my ancestors came from 200 years ago. I've spent a pleasant hour here. Thank you for a very interesting site.

I also have ancestral links to Enniskillen, Dungannon, Thornhill, Londonderry and Pomeroy. I would love to coorispond with any Armstrongs, McFaddens, or Fureys respectively from those places.

Absolutley fantastic site, well done!
Have hit a brick wall. My great uncle is a Henry Carney born circa 1919 (dont know where as I cannot find his birth record although I have found all his younger siblings and his death certificate) His father was also called Henry Carney and there is a rumour that he was from scotland and was possibly in the Black Watch or the Scottish Cameronians - as identified by a supposed photo of him - although its not definate that it is the Scottish Cameronians as the cap badge is not completely visible. Anway Henry senior married a Margaret Ogilby and they lived in the Shankill area of Belfast. Henry senior was born circa 1893 (from his death certificate) To complcate matters further his dad waas also a Henry Carney although I know even less about him and his possible wife/mother of the chidren died a Mary Cotter!!!! If ANYONE out there has ANY info whatsoever on my Carneys, I would love to hear from you, this is driving me crazy!

Keep up the great work Mary!!! thumbup

Hello Mary,
I signed in your site a little while ago but after browsing your family tree, I found quite a coincidence. You mentioned John Lennon who died at the Percy Street shelter. I was a nine year old boy living at 67 Percy Street and I remember that raid very well or as well as a nine year old can remember, as children were kept clear of the work of finding the bodies.
I thought you might like to know that the world is still a very small place at times.
Regards
Maurice.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. This is great!
Reid: I am the great-grandson of Frederick Reid from Belfast, Co. Antrim. Frederick was reportedly illegitimate son of Jane Reid of Foreman St., Belfast. He served as a batman (officer’s valet) in Royal Irish Regiment in Egypt circa 1882-1888. He emigrated with his large family in 1904. He was a Catholic from birth and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery.
McKnight: I am the great-grandson of Mary McKnight. Mary McKnight was the daughter of David McKnight and Roseanne McIlroy of Belfast. Oral history is that David was strident Protestant who converted to his wife’s Catholicism on his deathbed. Mary McKnight married Frederick Reid in St. Patrick’s RC Church in Donegall St., Belfast on 3 April 1888. Lived in Artillery St. in New Lodge Road area of North Belfast before emigrating to Philadelphia in 1904 with 9 children. Settled in Old St. Augustine’s Parish. She is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery.

What a marvellous collection Mary. Many thanks. I was able to find the street where I was born, and two others that I lived in, from the 1880 directory! I own and moderate a group of Nor'n Iron folk scattered all over the world (call them expats). All with a common heritage. We are about 70 strong and our mode is email. I was born just off the Shankill and now live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We are non-partisan but sometimes a wee bit of green or orange just might creep in. At the end of the day however we all are friends. You would be amazed to learn how many hook-ups have been made over the last ten years, from people known and near relatives or neighbours. If you would like to take a wee gander then write me at jrj2@shaw.ca and we will see what transpires. Always looking for new members.
